Hiawatha Collegiate High School is a high school located in South Minneapolis. Our students are 87% Latinx and 12% Black. We have an enrollment of 856 students 9-12. We place a strong focus on academics and college acceptance while working with the whole student. We offers numerous athletics, clubs, and offer AP courses. We have 2 social workers who meet with students and address basic needs and emotional well-being of students. Due to the current crisis, over 50% of students have opted to attend school virtually. This means they do not have access to the services they received in school. Additionally, parents are not leaving their homes due to safety reasons and therefore not working and struggling financially. This is an extremely challenging and traumatic time for staff and students alike.
